The new year is under way and the leadership of the National Resume Writers' Association is seeking volunteers to support the NRWA mission and help continuously improve programs, benefits, and services we provide for our members. As the only nonprofit, member-driven association dedicated to supporting the needs of resume writers, our all-volunteer board relies on your efforts to serve our members, promote our organization, and elevate the reputation and visibility of the resume-writing industry as a whole.

Public Image Committee - Ask The Experts Submissions Arbiter

If you enjoy the opportunity to learn from your colleagues and are committed to promoting NRWA to the public and you are a detail-oriented person who can make independent and unbiased decisions, then you might want to be an Ask the Experts Submissions Arbiter. This is a job that must be completed reliably and on schedule every month, but rarely requires more than 45-60 minutes of your time. Click here to view a video about what is involved in this job.

Conference Committee Members 

Have you ever thought “how does the conference committee put together such an awesome event year after year?” Well, here is your chance to get an inside peek. We are looking for more than just party planners.

Our committee works year-round to accomplish the following goals:

  • Plan a well-rounded conference for all attendees.
  • Promote speaker submissions, including reaching out to NCRWs to encourage their participation to present.
  • Select speakers from submissions received.
  • Prepare the conference agenda, including the “at a glance” schedule, along with the detailed descriptions of each presentation and the presenter's bio.
  • Plan conference activities.
  • Solicit sponsorship and door prizes.
  • Promote attendance and be a resource for all things conference throughout the year.
  • Assist with execution of conference logistics wherever it is held.

Areas of focus in which a conference committee member may take the lead include:

  • Drafting and designing conference collateral - Use your advanced writing and MS Word skills to create our program agenda and other program materials.
  • Vendor Liaison - Identify and execute ideas and activities that promote vendor engagement and work with Affiliate Sponsor Chair to promote vendor attendance and advertising.
  • Marketing - Write content for the conference in accordance with overall marketing plan; work with the NRWA Marketing Chair to stay on top of timeline and ensure all media outlets have consistent messaging; run all content through proofreaders before publication.
  • Speaker recruitment - Expand our reach to increase speaker submissions and promote our call for speakers on social media.
  • Membership Engagement - Work with the NRWA Membership Chair to coordinate membership activities during the conference.

Time commitment: Average of 2-3 hours/month. Attend one monthly planning meeting. Some months may require more time, such as when we review speaker submissions and get closer to our conference date.

Leadership opportunity: The incoming Conference Chair serves on the NRWA Board and is traditionally someone who has volunteered for at least one year on the conference committee and has emerged as a leader throughout the year.

Marketing Committee

Volunteer Social Media Coordinator 

Seeking enthusiastic and savvy users of social media to work closely with the NRWA Marketing Chair to develop and implement social media strategy, guidelines, and processes. Write social media messages to promote NRWA programs and engage with internal and external audiences. Consult with the NRWA Marketing Specialist to guide creation, optimization, and update of graphics as needed for each distinct audience and social media platform (i.e., optimal size dimensions and messaging for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.). Should be able to engage and monitor responses to posts, understand hashtag strategies, and keep abreast of social media trends both within and outside the careers industry. Other responsibilities would include following the social media presence of other industry organizations and keeping the Marketing Chair and other stakeholders informed of significant developments, new ideas and best practices across multiple platforms. Ideally seeking two people for this role who could commit to up to 4 hours each month.

Volunteer Press Release Coordinator 

Seeking a strong writer with solid organizational skills to work with the NRWA Marketing Chair and other board chairs, leaders, and copywriters to maintain press release schedule and develop content for press releases to promote the NRWA to external audiences and elevate the reputation of both the organization and the resume writing industry as a whole. Press release content to include:

  • Announcing new programs and events across all areas of the organization
  • Sponsor relationships, individual membership drives and programs.
  • Celebrating NRWA award winners and those who have earned certifications
  • Career-related topics that position the NRWA (and our members) as leaders/experts in the industry.

Familiarity with PRWeb or other online press release services would be helpful, but not required. Seeking one person available for 2 to 4 hours per month.

Volunteer Copy & Content Writers 

Copywriters to prepare clean and compelling copy on deadline to support the NRWA's marketing efforts. Role may include brainstorming meetings with program areas to establish core brand messaging, central concepts, call to action, and other details. Seeking at least 3 people to take writing assignments as needed. 

Deliverables may include:

  • Website content
  • Email marketing messages - subject, headline, body copy.
  • Assisting with developing and writing press release content and social media messages as needed.

If you have an interest in writing for specific topic areas within the organization, please let us know in your response. Following are some of the topics for which we need copywriters to develop content:

  • Conference - individual speakers promotions; updates to the schedule/program; calls for and descriptions of door prizes, vendors, and sponsors; ad hoc conference updates.
  • Education - Writing Excellence, Best Business Practices, Resume Writing 101, and monthly webinars.
  • NCRW and/or NCOPE Certification - other certifications that may be added
  • Membership Benefits & Programs - resources for business owners, resume writers, and other members/prospects.
  • Public Image Committee - e-book editing/writing
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives
  • Election - promoting NRWA board of director elections; announcing candidates and newly elected board members.
