CEU Requirements for the NCRW Certification
Have your CEUs recorded by sending an e-mail to the CEU Admin.
IMPORTANT: Please maintain your own personal CEU file so that any record-keeping discrepancies can be quickly resolved.
Non-NCRWs: Ten CEUs in the three years prior to submitting a sample resume and cover letter.
NCRWs: 15 CEUs every three years to maintain certification.
Obtaining CEUs for the NCRW Certification and Recertification
Non-NCRWs (Members who have not acquired the NCRW certification)
- Published Books: Five CEUs for books on resumes and cover letters published through a major publishing company (cannot be self-published). To get credit for the CEUs, you must submit a one-to-two page summary of the book indicating its compliance or non-compliance with The NRWA Study Guide. If the book contains sections that are not in compliance with our standards, please explain why.
- Conference Presenters on Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, and CV Topics:
- Featured presenters at The NRWA conferences will receive two CEUs for each presentation. Presenters must turn in all of their materials/handouts prior to the conference for review by the Certification Commission.
- Featured presenters at non-NRWA conferences to an audience of industry (career services) professionals will receive two CEUs for each presentation – up to a maximum of 10 CEUs. Presenters must submit a one-to-two page summary of their topic indicating its agreement with The NRWA Study Guide. If it does not comply with our standards, please explain why.
Please note: A featured presenter is classified as an individual who has prepared a specific presentation on some facet of resume and cover letter writing – not someone who sits on a panel.
- The NRWA’s Online Training Program: Two CEUs for every completed segment of the online training program.
- Book Reviews: Two CEUs for every book review. To get credit, you must submit a two-page summary of the book and include a final paragraph that describes its compliance or non-compliance with The NRWA Study Guide. Also indicate whether you would recommend the book for the approved book list and why.
- The NRWA Conference: Ten CEUs per conference (must register for entire conference and only the most recent three conferences apply).
- Training Classes: You will receive one CEU for every hour you attend a comprehensive, interactive resume training.
- The NRWA Teleseminars/Webinars: One CEU for each teleseminar you attend that is focused on resume writing (designated with an asterisk in the title).
- The NRWA Teleseminar Speaker: Two CEUs for every teleseminar you conduct/teach on a resume and cover letter writing.
- Non-NRWA Conferences/Workshops: If you attend non-NRWA conferences and workshops you may qualify for CEUs. You will need to submit a one-page synopsis of the program and the CEU value will be determined by the Certification Advisory Board.
- Business Writing / Written Communications Classes: You will receive one CEU for every credit earned within a three-year period. You must pass the class and submit copy of transcript.
- If the class was take as part of your bachelors' or masters' degree program the same requirements apply.
NCRWs (Members who have acquired the NCRW certification)
- Published Books: Five CEUs for books on resumes and cover letters published through a major publishing company (cannot be self-published). To get credit for the CEUs, you must submit a one-to-two page summary of the book indicating its compliance or non-compliance with The NRWA Study Guide. If the book contains sections that are not in compliance with our standards, please explain why.
- Certification Commission: If you serve on the Certification Commission, you will receive one CEU for each sample or test reviewed. Each Certification Commission member may obtain up to a maximum of 10 CEUs from grading during their three-year cycle.
- Conference Presenters on Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, and CV Topics:

- Mentoring with The NRWA Mentoring Program: Two CEUs for every six-week mentoring session. Each mentor can obtain up to 10 CEUs from mentoring. If you provide mentoring for another career association/organization, you can receive up to five CEUs.
- The NRWA’s Online Training Program: Two CEUs for every completed and passed segment of the online training program.
- Book Reviews: Two CEUs for every book review. To get credit, you must submit a two-page summary of the book and include a final paragraph that describes its compliance or non-compliance with The NRWA Study Guide. - Non-NRWA Conferences/Workshops: If you attend non-NRWA conferences and workshops you may qualify for CEUs. You will need to submit a one-page synopsis of the program and the CEU value will be determined by the Certification Advisory Board.
